An engagement ring with an English knot…and it’s mountain time immediately!

Leopoldo and his girlfriend love climbing on rock and their passion for the mountains is so great that for the engagement ring he made it for me a crazy request to leave you speechless.

Engagement ring with an English knot and raw Herkimer quartz.

For Leopoldo, two elements were essential: a precious stone that was at the same time a piece of rock and the knot that ties the double cord that is used when climbing. In short, he had imagined a engagement ring with knot English that contained a piece of mountain!

Ring with an English knot in which a rough quartz stone is embedded, for two lovers of the mountains.

First of all I had to find a raw mineral suitable for being embedded in an engagement ring, Therefore, durable (because it doesn't have to get ruined by everyday shocks) and pleasant to watch (it is still a gem!).

After some research I found the solution: I would have created a ring with Herkimer quartz in its raw crystal form, that is, uncut. Herkimer quartz is a prismatic-shaped mineral that culminates in a pointed tip., It seemed perfect to be trapped in an English knot.

Silver figurine created to study the shape of the English knot together with quartz.

But Designing the shape of the double-cord ring wasn’t easy, so I decided to first make a sketch in silver to get an idea of what I wanted to achieve. How to wind the wires. Subsequently, I shaped the engagement ring in the English knot style by intertwining two strands of gold of different colors, hammered with a texture which recalled the pattern of the rope for climbing. In the ring, the rough quartz is embedded exactly between the two knots.

In the end, once I had climbed my mountain, I was really satisfied: a great feat! Contact me and take on my challenge!
