The engagement ring is an original creation that is born around its woman and our idea of love. Each stone offers the wearer a different intrinsic meaning. Yours, for example, might be a very “colourful” love, one that doesn't rely on diamonds to show itself. So, putting conformity aside, why not discover the infinite possibilities of other colourful gemstones with us?

From top to bottom: two oval pink sapphires, a pear-shaped Australian opal and two brilliant-cut emeralds.
There are countless types of gemstones. The visual miracle is that for them, the range of natural colours has no limits! Indeed, compared to diamond which is born with a variable colouration ranging from extra white to yellowish, other stones present infinite variations. For this reason, finding two stones of identical colour is difficult; but it is even rarer to find more than two – unless they are of very low carat. In addition, the Cut of a diamond is exclusively brilliant, while with the other gems It is possible to play on very imaginative cuts and shapes. The diamond is the hardest stone in nature, followed by corundum (i.e. sapphires and rubies). These are also quite scratch-resistant stones, however, unlike diamond, they cannot be heated by fire; this means that any repairs will have to be carried out using alternative techniques.

Which stones instead of diamond? Blue sapphire is an excellent alternative. (photo by Silvia Pasquetto).
Among the most well-known sapphires are the blue sapphires of Ceylon (modern-day Sri Lanka). However, other equally stunning natural sapphires display different colours: pink, yellow, orange, etc. For Lorenzo's girlfriend, we created a gold ring with sapphire of Ceylon, round-cut, almost half a carat, in a beautiful deep blue. The stone has been set in a white gold ring Custom gives a hammering that creates a slightly “raw” effect. Personally, I believe that it sapphire blue pairs excellently with’white gold Checol Yellow… a matter of very personal taste.
For a Engagement ring you can really let your imagination run wild, use stones with more exotic meanings, and you can still choose from: topaz, aquamarine, emeralds or Australian opals. The only real consideration should be given to the materials, because for example opals Australians and emeralds are delicate stones, and they will need to be set in a pure gold bezel because they require protection from knocks...
