For centuries master carvers have studied and experimented to find the ideal cut based on each gemstone\u2019s type of crystal lattice structure.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Over the last 300 years, faceting clear\u00a0gemstones\u00a0has evolved to perfection, ensuring\u00a0greater internal reflection of light and enhanced appearance of the stone itself. Although in ancient times coloured stones were preferred, after the evolution of the faceted cut,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/anelli3.italix.org\/en\/ethical-diamonds-responsible-choice\/?lang=en\"><strong>diamonds<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0gained increasing popularity, and <strong>today make up 80% of sales of precious stones worldwide!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2390\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/anelli3.italix.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/tagli-diamante2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2390\" class=\"wp-image-2390 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/anelli3.italix.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/tagli-diamante2.jpg\" alt=\"diamond cuts\" width=\"640\" height=\"335\" data-wp-pid=\"2390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anelli3.italix.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/tagli-diamante2.jpg 640w, https:\/\/anelli3.italix.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/tagli-diamante2-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2390\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Evolution of the\u00a0diamond cut<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In 1300 the most common diamond cut was the <strong>\u201crosette\u201d cut<\/strong> (A), which is rarely used today, and known as the \u201cHolland rose\u201d or \u201cRose cross\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In the mid-1400s the cut was done with a flat surface on the upper level and then some edges of the rough diamond were bevelled (B).<\/p>\n<p>In 1700 a new shape was discovered that could make a greater reflection and refraction of light inside the diamond, which is currently referred to as the <strong>\u201cbrilliant\u201d cut<\/strong>. In this phase, the precious stone was still not round in shape as we see it today, but in the soft shape of a \u201c<strong>cushion<\/strong><strong>\u201d<\/strong>(C), which made a point on the pavilion (vertex of the diamond) trunk.
